International St. Mary’s Hospital CT Innovative reduction in inspection time and radiation dose

HIT : 6,772DATE : 2016-11-16

CT(Computed Tomography) has become common and familiar medical devices so most adults are examined at least once. However, there is still inconvenience due to long examination time and anxiety caused by radiation. The CT scanner installed in International St. Mary’s Hospital is the world’s most advanced equipment, and it not only reduces the examination time and radiation dose compared to the existing one but also provides high-quality images with high precision.

1. Examination speed is doubled, the radiation dose is half

The ‘SOMATOM Definition Flash’ introduced in CKU International St. Mary’s Hospital boasts examination speed and stability among the existing CT equipment by using two sets of X-ray tubes and two detectors at the same time. Compared to conventional CT, the speed is more than 2 times faster and accurate and precise images can be provided even with less than half of the radiation.

It is especially useful for children, elderly people, emergency patients who move their body a lot and have difficulty in breathing. In case of full body scan, imaging speed is reduced by 5 seconds versus 20 seconds for the previous model and by 0.6 seconds for chest examination. As well, angiographic imaging can be taken within seconds. Therefore, the examination can be finished in the shortest time by minimizing the use of medicines suspected to cause side effects such as sedatives.

2. Safe CT scan with Low-dose examination

When doing CT scan with conventional spiral CT for cardiac examination, 2~10 mSv of radiation is required. However, the radiation dose of CT scan in International St. Mary’s Hospital delivers less than 1 mSv which is even safer to patients.

In addition, the quality of the image can be maintained by reducing radiation dose for important organs(thyroid, breast, etc.) located on the front body while reinforcing it on the other side. Sensitive organs such as lung, major organs of the abdomen, eyes, thyroid, prostate, etc. can be protected through this state-of-the-art imaging method.

3. More enhanced and improved CT medical image

In conventional CT imaging, single-tube rotating human body section investigates X-ray, each of intensity is collected by the detector, and the computer reconstructs the image by calculating the degree of absorption of each part. The CT in the hospital can display accurate images that have not be obtained before by using a dual tube(two). It has become possible to perform accurate diagnosis with high reliability by improving the conventional CT which were difficult to confirm because it was difficult to see.

4. State-of-the-art equipment and top medical staffs for patients

CKU International St. Mary’s Hospital has improved stability of CT scan by introducing cutting-edge equipment for the examination and treatment and is trying its best to ensure precise diagnosis based on high-quality medical images. Medical staffs with plenty of clinical experiences, radiologists, and nurses who are continuously studying the best customized imaging methods are making every effort for accurate diagnosis of the patients.
